Quotes

“… the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…” — Treaty of Tripoli

“Our team, if you will, has I think a very enlightened world view to present, but we’re not presenting it!” — Sean Faircloth

“Priests…dread the advance of science as witches do the approach of daylight and scowl on the fatal harbinger announcing the subversions of the duperies on which they live.” — Thomas Jefferson

“I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology.” — Thomas Jefferson

“In no instance have . . . the churches been guardians of the liberties of the people.” — James Madison

“The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature; and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history.” — John Adams

“The senators and representatives before-mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” — U.S. Constitution, Article 6, Section 3
