Hey gang,

Ted and I are scheming on hosting scheduled topic chats through the site. What I'm planning on testing out is a chat tool called Twubs that allows us to have Live discussion events via tweets.

We'd set a date and time for the chat, let everyone know the topic, and then you just go to the page on this site where the chat is taking place. You'd log in using a Twitter or Twubs account, and then just chat away.

The conversation would appear in the Twitterverse with the hashtag #secularbuddhism, a hashtag I've registered to us through Twubs. You don't need to put the hashtag in during the event, as the interface does that for you. This way when people on twitter see the hashtag they can join in if they want. Another reason I want to try out this interface is that we can moderate, preventing spammers or really obnoxious people.

Soooo, check out our page on Twubs and Join our Twub secularbuddhists if you like:

http://twubs.com/secularbuddhism/

What I'd like to know from you is what topics you'd like to have for focused chats?

I've seen some repeating questions here in the forums regarding:

* Not Self & Emptiness
* How do we train, find teachers for secular Buddhism
* Meditation training

But I'd like to hear what you want to chat about, and we can settle on a topic. Also let us know what times and days of the week work best for you.

Note:

* While this interface is chat, it's also Tweets. So it is NOT private, but people do have to login to join in the event
* It will be a LIVE event for nice conversation
* Will can archive the event after for folks to read, if you folks think that would be valuable.

Let us know your thoughts. Thank you!

I would join in but i'm not on twitter or twubs and am not too inclined to join up to be honest.

Since it is (I assume) live text chat I'd join in.

I'm not on twitter as well and don't intend to be but it's a great idea. My preference of course is video chat via google as I've stated many times

Hi Dana, I tested (or attempted to test) Twubs with tweet reply to you, saying that I think a key issue is finding a reliable teacher. Apologies if I mishandled the technology: I'm very new to the whole social networking thing. I'm interested in the live discussions (very useful).

Live chats on Twitter? With limits of 140 characters (less, if you count the hashtag)? I don't see the point. There are plenty of free live chat tools that use Java, and that run in a browser.

Does anybody else use Dragon, the dictation software? I got it a week ago, the home edition. I was interested when it came out, but waited for the price to come down. I got it on sale at Staples. I'm using it right now. it's remarkably accurate.

Dragon software is very good. I use it off and on, but always seem to forget and end up typing as usual.

I've reviewed the Mac version of Dragon Dictate. (I'm a tech writer.) It's very accurate, but I touch-type, and the gains aren't that big for me. I do like dictating some things, because it's more relaxing than sitting in a frozen position.
