Episode 317 :: Ira Helderman :: Prescribing the Dharma: Psychotherapists, Buddhist Traditions, and Defining Religion
Ira Helderman
Ira Helderman joins us to speak about his book Prescribing the Dharma: Psychotherapists, Buddhist Traditions, and Defining Religion.
With the advent of secular mindfulness programs and Buddhist psychology, the lines between mental health and religious training becomes a more winding pathway. Where does therapy end, and spiritual progress begin? Or can one even reliably discern them, when individual circumstances, needs, and aspirations are so very unique?
Ira Helderman, a psychotherapist in private practice, holds a Ph.D. in religious studies and is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Human Development Counseling at Vanderbilt University.
So, sit back, relax, and have a nice Sunrise Mountain tea.
