Three Strategies for Watching the News
The news nowadays can be pretty stressful and depressing for many of us. Are there any strategies we can use to lessen its psychological impact on us? I’ll outline three basic mindsets we can use, suggested by early Buddhist teachings, plus some additional thoughts.
This is a very difficult one for me, and a thin line one which to balance. Not only concercing the news, but also in connection with sociale justice and environmental action. If you are concerned, let’s say about bad agricultural practices (pesticides, meat-production, …), and you constantly see this going wrong, you get frustrated. But if you don’t mind, nothing ever will change. So it’s about finding a balance between not letting things depress you and still tackle the topic.
I think it will be something I will struggle with whole my life…
Yes, it can be very difficult to find the right balance. You have to be kind to yourself as well as to the wider world.
